Hundreds of residents fled their homes yesterday, as heavy shooting was heard near Maiduguri, Borno State capital.
A military source told Daily Sun that some insurgents, who fled
Sambisa Forest, a notorious Boko Haram camp, due to sustain
bombardment by the military, launched sporadic shooting at about
6.30p.m.
The Nigerian troops have put the insurgents on the run, as air and ground assaults on their major hideout continued.
It was gathered that some of the insurgents, who fled the onslaught,
fired several shots in an attempt to enter the city yesterday through
the cashew plantation behind the Giwa Army Barracks..
Boko Haram insurgents had attacked the barracks in early 2013 through
the same route that also leads to Borno central town of Konduga, about
15 kilometres to Sambisa.
Many residents of the GRA in Maiduguri said they fled their houses as
the shooting raged till darkness enveloped the capital city.
