This was the first anti-riot mission conducted by the Chinese battalions since they arrived in the country in early April.
Officer Li Xiaoliang said that they had deployed 32 personnel to isolate the rioting crowd and prevent any further escalation. Two people were killed and more than 70 were wounded during Sunday’s clashes.
The Chinese peacekeeping unit also sent a medical team, comprising a doctor and two nurses, to treat the injured.
The peacekeepers from Nepal are currently in charge of maintaining order, with Chinese troops expected to take over most of their responsibilities in the future.
